Chocolate + Avocado = Choco-What? Chocomole!

chocolate

For today’s recipe idea, I thought I’d take a page from the Garden Kitchen and highlight a recipe that uses avocado in an unusual way. Avacodos are extremely versatile fruits that can be used for both savory and sweet dishes. With a good amount of healthy fat, they’ll help fill you up and provide many nutrients to keep you fueled.

While the chefs in our Garden Kitchen make Key Lime pie with avocados, I was feeling a bit of a chocolate craving, so I decided to look for something to satisfy that ever-present companion of mine—my addiction to chocolate. What I found surprised even me—a delicious recipe known affectionately by some raw foodies as, “Chocomole.” Check out this great blog post that includes the recipe for my sweet, delicious friend.

Gena from Choosing Raw suggests that you can even eat this as a “power breakfast” because of its super food qualities including its doses of vitamin K and potassium. We tend to forget how important potassium is in our diets. Potassium has a variety of functions, but one that is especially important in the summer is preventing muscle cramps due to electrolyte imbalances. Throw in some fruit like bananas, blueberries or strawberries to add a healthy, fruity twist to this recipe. The banana will add in some additional potassium, as Gena suggests.

Chocolate for breakfast? It’s not your Momma’s breakfast, but maybe it should be….
